Dear friend of justice:
I am a professor at Alabama State University where my students started an organization called the HBCU Legal Focus Group. Following their lead, another parent organization was created for advocates called the Legal Focus of Alabama. Initially, the organization was started to assist undergraduate students in applying for law school and the group eventually adopted prison reform as a legal focus after receiving a request for assistance from the parent of an incarcerated person. As the organization grew, faculty from different colleges, lawyers, activists and families of incarcerated persons have joined the group and we have done internet conferences and presentations on topics such as prison reform, First Amendment Rights, voting rights of incarcerated persons, parole reform and critical race theory.
Our organization offers a legal advocacy course that issues a certificate after completion and we hold forums and informational sessions on a regular basis. We assisted in the drafting of a booklet on the voting rights of the incarcerated and have also published a book on critical race theory. We are in the process of building a better functioning network to fight the corruption in the Alabama prisons and have had nominal success with helping incarcerated persons with various issues. We have a great network of people who are fully committed to assisting protecting the rights of the incarcerated and look forward to working with you. Please know we are doing all we can to bring revolution to America’s so-called criminal justice system. Until we meet in person, I remain.
Sincerely,
Dr.Robert O. White III
